According to The Telegraph, Newcastle made an approach to secure a season-long loan deal for Liverpool striker Divock Origi last week, but the Saint James’ Park outfit were unable to guarantee the Belgium international a permanent starting berth.
That effectively ruled out a move, with the 22-year-old only keen to switch to where he would lead the line.
With only 10 minutes of Premier League action to his name thus far, Origi wants out of Anfield, and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp hasn’t ruled out a temporary exit for the youngster who still has 2 more seasons to run on his current contract.
The Belgian forward is said to be very close to securing a Wolfsburg loan.
Newcastle are hoping to land Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Vidar Orn Kjartansson in the next few hours to transfer deadline, while Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic might be sold.
Origi would have been a fine replacement for the reportedly outgoing duo, and a more reliable and suitable option than the Iceland international, with his Premier League experience a handy feature of what he brings to the table.
The ability of the former Lille man to also play on the wings for a side lacking top quality would have also benefited Newcastle’s survival cause were a move sealed for him.
