Match Preview
Pumas UNAM has been underwhelming in both the Liga MX and Copa MX, currently in 16th place with six points in the Liga MX and second in Group 2 of the Copa MX with only two points. The Mexico City team is looking to turn things around with the departure of Paco Palencia, Sergio Egea currently serving as the interim manager. Nicolas Castillo who currently has five out of the six goals that Pumas UNAM has scored in the Liga MX will not be available for this game because he will be with the Chilean national team.
Some intriguing players like Abraham Gonzalez, Bryan Rabello and Joffre Guerron could feature in this game and generate some scoring opportunities. Pumas UNAM should win this game and a loss would mean that Los Universitarios would need to win their next and last game in the Copa MX group stage against Monterrey.
Celaya is almost mathematically out of this competition, with only one point after three games played. The Ascenso MX team could sneak into the knockout stage with a surprising win away from home here but it would be a very complicated result.
Los Toros have eight points from six games in the Ascenso MX and have a solid squad with some notable former Liga MX players like Leobardo Lopez, Angel Reyna, Juan Perez and Alfredo Moreno. Getting a favorable result against Pumas in Mexico City is always a challenging task but Celaya should give a good fight in this game and make for an entertaining encounter.
