Premier League goalkeeping legend Shay Given believes that West Ham goalkeeper Joe Hart has been unfairly criticized this season.
Hart arrived at the London Stadium from Manchester City on loan this summer and has been criticized after conceding ten goals from just three Premier League games.
Though the East London club have conceded a lot of goals thus far, which looks bad for Hart, Given believes that the poor performances have not only been due to the England first choice shot-stopper’s shortcomings.
He said, “They’ve conceded too many goals, and the problem when you concede goals as a goalkeeper then, the fingers get pointed at you, but I’ve always said the goalkeeper’s only as good as the team he’s playing behind.”
West Ham fans will have to be realistic and understand that the club’s current situation is due to the team as a whole.
The Hammers defence has also been leaky this season and should they fail to rectify things soon, they could end up flirting with relegation this season.
