According to Ajax Cape Town, centre-back and Celtic target Rivaldo Coetzee will return to the South African club having failed his medicals with the Scottish Premiership heavyweights.
The 20-year-old was assessed in Johannesburg by Celtic’s medical department who discovered a crucial problem in the player’s right foot.
As a result of the unfortunate circumstance, both clubs were unable to seal what was supposed to be Celtic’s 4th deal of the summer, and what the future holds for Coetzee as far as a move to Glasgow goes remains unknown.
The South Africa international has since returned to Ajax CT for further assessment.
Considering that Coetzee has been in fine form for both club and country – where he recently received a call up ahead of next weekend’s World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde, that an underlying problem could block a long-awaited switch to Celtic couldn’t have been imagined.
Meanwhile, the Bhoys failed to make it 3 wins in as many league games this term, as they laboured to a 1-1 draw against St Johnstone at Celtic Park on Saturday.
With a move for Coetzee no longer possible this summer, the club might be forced to make a late swoop on another defensive target as they hope to strengthen their backline ahead of next month’s Champions League campaign.
