Wolverhampton boss expresses his pride following Southampton victory

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed that he is proud of his players after they claimed a shock 2-0 victory over Premier League side Southampton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Wolves who fielded 11 changes for the match went on to claim victory through second half goals from Danny Batth and Donovan Wilson. The win also meant that the club has continued its good form under new boss Nuno, having won five out of their six games played under him.

Following the game, Nuno revealed that he was proud of his players and said, “I’m very proud, it’s fantastic work from my players, the way they prepared. It’s not about building a team, it’s about a squad, and they showed there’s no starting XI at Wolves.

“For us it’s about creating a squad, growing their own identity and being able to perform like this. We know Donovan [Wilson], he’s been performing well and training with us for some time.

“He has scored a goal here, but he will be back with the U23s. Nothing changes for Donovan. I’ve done this throughout my career, giving players chances, but only at the right times.”

The club will now no doubt be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Cardiff last weekend when they take on Brentford on Saturday.
