Legend brands Rooney’s treatment by England as disgraceful

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that Wayne Rooney has been treated disgracefully and that he will only be appreciated for his talents once he retires from football.

The 31-year-old Rooney was dropped from the England national team last season by Gareth Southgate as he did not feature regularly for former club Manchester United.

Since joining Everton this summer, however the veterans performances has improved and he has so far scored two goals from two Premier League appearances this season.

Southgate had reportedly phone called Rooney this week to inform him that he would like to call him up for the Three Lions upcoming World Cup qualifications, however the all-time leading goal scorer for England and Manchester United informed Southgate that he wishes to retire from internationals.

Ferdinand has now stated his belief that that his former Red Devils team-mate has not been treated well by saying, “I think it’s disgraceful, far too many times we want to throw players away when they get to a certain age, or when they are just below the performance level that they have shown over the years gone by.”
