West Ham boss Slaven Bilic praises team despite defeat

Despite experiencing defeat on the day, Slaven Bilic has praised his team for showing resilience during their match against Southampton on Saturday.

Although  West Ham fought back from 2-0 down, the Hammers eventually ended up losing the match 3-2 and have now lost their first two Premier League matches of the season.

Manolo Gabbiadini opened the scoring for the Saints before Dusan Tadic successfully converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute to seemingly seal the three points for the Saints. However, a brace from Javier Hernandez brought the Hammers right back into the game.

At the end though, Charlie Austin managed to seal three points for the Saints during second half stoppage time after he converted a penalty after Pablo Zabaleta and Jose Fonte brought down Maya Yoshida.

Despite being consigned to back to back defeats, Bilic praised his team after the game, saying, “We lost a point but gained a lot of things after the Manchester United game.

“Great team spirit; character; we didn’t give up, and showed quality to play with 10 men for such a long period of time. It’s extremely hard, especially when you’re one down.”
