Ahead of Leeds United’s trip to Sunderland on Saturday in the Championship, news emerged that striker Chris Wood was set to have a medical with Burnley FC.
The Lancashire Telegraph reports this, along with also saying that he was supposed to be with the squad for the match against Sunderland.
After a free-flowing start to the season, Leeds had not scored in their two Championship matches preceding this one against the Black Cats, and many have speculated that the status of Chris Wood might have been at fault.
Either way, it all looks to be over as early as Monday, as the report indicates the deal come be all sewn up by that point in time. It will be a blow to Leeds, but they have signed plenty of players this summer and should be able to recover.
They’ve been linked with other strikers, and they will have a decent amount of money to spend should they choose to do so. Waiting, though, until January might prove to be the best option- if it is needed at all.
