Match Preview

Chivas of Guadalajara has a lot more pressure to get the three points out of this game, being the current champions and being off to a very disappointing start. Los Rojiblancos only have three points so far, coming from three draws against Toluca, Cruz Azul and Necaxa. El Rebano Sagrado suffered their worst result of the season last week, a massive 4-1 loss against Monterrey away from home.

At this point, Guadalajara has most of its key players, only missing Mexican striker Alan Pulido but with an almost full squad, Chivas had its worst result of the season. Manager Matias Almeyda inclusively lost his head in this defeat and will now serve a two-match ban and will watch this game from the stands. It is very difficult to say how Chivas will fare in this game against a struggling Puebla side but a win is almost obligatory, especially playing at home.

Puebla does not have much pressure in this game as the team was not expected to do much this season. There is no doubt that Chivas has the stronger squad but in terms of form, both teams are just about even. Puebla only has two points in this Apertura, with draws against Club Tijuana and Monarcas Morelia and losses against Tigres UANL and Veracruz. Like Chivas, Puebla also suffered a tremendous defeat against a team from Monterrey this season as Puebla took a 5-0 loss against Tigres UANL in the first round of play.

La Franja is coming from a much better result than Chivas, a 1-1 draw against Club Tijuana that should have really been a win had it not been for officiating errors during the encounter. Puebla has some intriguing players that can be dangerous on the attack like Francisco Acuna, Felix Micolta and Carlos Salom but this should be a challenging task against a solid Chivas back line.

The game should be very interesting and after the 90 minutes, there may not be a team with their first win of the season as this game could easily end in a deadlock draw. Chivas is the clear favorite especially with the home-field advantage but a few factors, specifically Matias Almeyda’s absence could have a deep effect on the team.
