According to Colombian publication Deportes RCN, Tottenham are close to securing a summer transfer deal for Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, as negotiations are going well and the player’s desire is to play for Spurs this season.
The 21-year-old also wishes for the switch to be completed in the next few hours, but both clubs are yet to come to an agreement as regards a transfer fees.
The Dutch giants are holding out for £42million on Sanchez’s signature, but Tottenham are only willing to pay £32million.
Sanchez has proven himself to be capable of playing at the highest level there is within 12 months of playing European football.
So, despite the gulf in quality between the Eredivisie and the Premier League, he can be expected to him the ground running sooner than later.
Arguably, Tottenham have the best centre-defensive duo in the land in Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, but apart from a makeshift Eric Dier, there isn’t a reliable cover on the bench for the two that comes close in quality.
In Sanchez, Tottenham would boast of one if they do get their hands on him, and the fact that he can also play at right-back is an added advantage.
