According to De Telegraaf, Tottenham could see their spirited efforts to land Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez go down the drain, as Chelsea and Real Madrid have both entered the race.

Spurs are said to have submitted a £36million bid to the Dutch side, and while Ajax aren’t willing to let go having offered the 21-year-old an improved contract, the emergence of the interest of the money-spending giants could make things tougher for them.

Tottenham are hoping to further strengthen a defence that’s regarded as the best in the Premier League by adding Sanchez.

The Colombian international was the one of the main stars as Ajax came within whiskers of a double last season.

The defender has grown in leaps and bounds since arriving Europe last summer, and his courage to reject playing for Barcelona B team for Ajax underlines Sanchez’s huge beliefs in his abilities.

While he’s still a little bit rough around the edges and isn’t the finished article yet, he has a chance to get molded into one of best defenders in the world under the tutelage of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Getting him, however, won’t be easy if Chelsea and Madrid actually engage Tottenham in a transfer tussle.
