Tottenham reportedly see bid for promising £36million forward knocked back

Anthony Martial

According to RMC Sport’s football chief editor Mohamed Bouhafsi, Tottenham are interested in making Manchester United winger Anthony Martial their first summer signing, but the Red Devils have rejected their bid for the 21-year-old.

It’s believed Spurs made a move over the weekend prior to their opening match of the season, and if they would table another bid for the out-of-favour France international remains to be seen.

United are said to be only willing to listen to offers if the north Londoners wish to trade left-back Danny Rose.

Martial’s Old Trafford future has been in doubt since Jose Mourinho’s arrival at United’s managerial seat last summer, and it was reported he could be used as a make-weight in the deal to land Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic.

It’s not the first time Spurs have made an attempt to land the former Monaco speedster, though, as they showed interest in him back in 2015 before he moved to United.

Although he has battled with inconsistencies in the last 12 months, Martial’s talents are never up for debate.

Spurs landing him will be a steal as he has everything to force himself into boss Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.

He opened his goalscoring account for the season in United’s 4-nil thrashing of West Ham, becoming the player with most involvement in goals for the club since 2015-16 with 16 goals and 11 assists.

Perhaps, taking a gamble and letting Rose go for Martial could be worth it in the end. However, Spurs must be ready to offer the French youngster a solid pay package if any deal is to come to fruition.
