Celaya is the underdog in this Group 2 of the competition with Monterrey and Pumas UNAM and is currently bottom of the group with only one point. The Ascenso MX team has had decent results so far with a 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM in week 2 of the competition being the standout result.
Los Toros are coming off a tremendous 3-1 win against Sonora in the Ascenso MX and can bring the momentum from that win into this game. Manager Ricardo Valino has a very solid squad featuring notable former Liga MX players like Leobardo Lopez, Juan Perez and Angel Reyna. Celaya should not be able to win this game but may be able to scrape a point out of the game playing at home.
Monterrey is one of the favorites to win this competition, with the stacked squad that it does have and with the ambition shown by manager Antonio Mohamed. Los Rayados are coming off a fairly disappointing 1-1 draw against Pumas UNAM in the tournament but did defeat Celaya 3-0 before that. In the Liga MX, Monterrey had a monumental 4-1 win against Chivas of Guadalajara this past weekend and is also looking like a top contender to take the Liga MX crown.
Antonio Mohamed has used key starters in this Copa MX competition like Jose Maria Basanta, Neri Cardozo, Cesar Montes, Rogelio Funes Mori, Carlos Sanchez and Dorlan Pabon. Monterrey should win this game comfortably and score a few goals but these away games can prove to be complicated at times, which should make for an interesting encounter.
