According to The Sun, Tottenham are keeping tabs on Celta Vigo midfield sensation Pape Cheikh Diop, as manager Mauricio Pochettino is a great admirer of the Spanish under-19 international who reportedly has a £25million buyout clause.
However, they face very stiff competition from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon, who have the upper hand due to the offer of more regular football for the Senegalese-born forward.
Diop, 20, still has 4 more years left on his current contract with the La Liga side, but it’s believed he would be allowed to leave to any side that meet his release clause.
The Spaniard, who has been likened to Dele Alli due to his style of play featured in 16 league games for Celta Vigo last season, playing in deep, centre and attacking midfield.
Diop is a tough tackler and great dribbler, and would make a perfect signing for Spurs.
He definitely can be a great option off the bench, but it’s said he prefers Lyon where he is certain his development can be fast-tracked, as he has his eyes set on playing senior team international football soon.
