Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce explains why he is embarrassed

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is embarrassed at his team’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Cardiff City on Saturday. The loss further continued Villa’s disappointing start to the new Championship season after they drew 1-1 with Hull City last weekend.

A brace from Nathaniel Mendez- Laing and another effort from Junior Hoilett condemned the Villains to defeat. The win took Neil Warnock’s side to the top of the Championship standings while it gave the Villa players as well as Bruce plenty to ponder.

They will now know that they will have to put in a lot of work if they want to improve and achieve their aim of challenging for promotion.

Bruce said following the defeat, “Everything went wrong apart from the first 20 minutes. We made a bad mistake for the first goal and after that it was on the verge of embarrassing at times. It was a rude awakening for us.

“We didn’t do the basics well and we looked fragile. Overall, it was a difficult afternoon. We have to do more. We are Aston Villa and we come with a big reputation. But away from home we have to be aware of what’s coming.”
