Sheffield Wednesday vs Queens Park Rangers FL Championship – Match Preview August 12, 2017

This Saturday, August 12, 2017 (7:00 AM Pacific) Sheffield Wednesday will host QPR at Hillsborough Stadium for a game in the second matchday of the Championship. Both teams have potential to fight for promotion and this game should be important to see where each team is at, heading into this new season.

Sheffield Wednesday started off its 17-18 Championship campaign with a very disappointing 1-0 loss against Preston North End. The Owls regained some momentum during the week with a 4-1 thrashing against Chesterfield in the EFL Cup. Wednesday was one of the top teams in the Championship last season and this game should be won, especially in front of the home crowd.

The experienced core of the team put in a shift in the game against Chesterfield with goals from Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Bary Bannan and Sam Hutchinson. Both Fletcher and Hooper were on the bench in the game against Preston and for this game, Carlos Carvalhal may consider starting the experienced pair instead of the flashier and younger duo of Jordan Rhodes and Fernando Forestieri. This game will be very intriguing and should serve as a great parameter to see where Sheffield Wednesday stands at this point of the early season.

Queens Park Rangers had a much more positive start to the new Championship season with a 2-0 win against Reading at Loftus Road. QPR followed that up with another clean sheet and another win, getting a 1-0 victory against Northampton in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Twenty five year-old striker Conor Washington had a very nice start to his new season with a brace that earned QPR the win against Reading. Ian Holloway’s strongest component of his team is the defense with the likes of the club captain Nedem Onuoha leading the charge. Steven Caulker will not be available for this game after a very solid performance against Northampton but is said to be gradually making his way back into being a consistent starter. The game should prove to be a very entertaining encounter at Hillsborough Stadium and should have a few goals in it.
