Monterrey vs Chivas Match Preview
Monterrey is currently undefeated and is coming off two consecutive victories in the tournament against Veracruz (1-0) and Club Tijuana (3-0). The Northern Mexican side also had a scoreless draw against Monarcas Morelia to start off the tournament back in week 1.
While Los Rayados are renowned for their potent offense featuring players like Aviles Hurtado, Rogelio Funes Mori, Dorlan Pabon and Carlos Sanchez the defense has been the most impressive component of this team. Antonio Mohamed’s side is yet to concede any goals and players like Luis Fuentes, Stefan Medina and Nicolas Sanchez have really stood out. Monterrey is currently in better form than Chivas and has a better squad, that with the home-field advantage should give Los Regios the edge in this game.
Chivas are yet to win, coming off three consecutive draws but have exceeded expectations a bit considering all the injury problems earlier in the season. Los Rojiblancos were not expected to get any points out of its first two encounters against Toluca and Cruz Azul but did scrape a point from each game.
This last 2-2 draw against Necaxa was a bit of a letdown as Chivas was playing at home and Matias Almeyda presented a very formidable lineup. Oswaldo Alanis and Jose Juan Vazquez made their way back to the starting 11 after injury problems and those two key players should help strengthen the team defensively.
Guadalajara has a solid squad but may even miss the playoffs if it does not start to get favorable results as the league seems to be highly competitive this season. This match should be one of the best this weekend and should be one to watch in this Saturday’s Liga MX action.
