According to reports, Sunderland will step up their interest in signing Ross McCormack and Jordan Hugill after gaining funds from the sale of Jeremain Lens to Besiktas.
Simon Grayson is looking to add two new strikers to his Sunderland side and is keen on McCormack, whom he worked well with during his time at Leeds.
After becoming seemingly surplus to requirements at Aston Villa, it is likely that Steve Bruce’s side will be open to listening to decent offers for the 30-year-old McCormack.
As for Hugill, the 25-year-old netted 13 goals for North End last term under Black Cats’ boss Grayson but it may be difficult to lure him considering that he is a focal part of Preston’s plans.
Grayson has also reportedly passed up the opportunity to sign Martyn Waghorn and the striker has since joined Ipswich Town from Rangers in a deal worth £1 million.
