This Tuesday, August 8, 2017 (11:45 AM Pacific) QPR will face Northampton Town at Loftus Road for a game in the first round of the EFL Cup. There is a gap in quality between the two teams but the game should prove to be an intense encounter.
Queen’s Park Rangers narrowly evaded relegation last season in the Championship, finishing 18th. Ian Holloway managed to keep his job at the helm of the London-based club but will need some better results in this upcoming season.
Keeping on to some key players like Steven Caulker, Nedem Onuoha and Massimo Luongo could be the key to success for QPR this season. The team from the English capital should be able to get past Northampton in this game and advance to the next round of the EFL Cup.
Northampton also had a shaky 16-17 season, finishing 16th in the English League One and is not a team that is expected to fight for promotion this season. The Cobblers are in a transitional phase with former Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh.
The English skipper had been in charge of Gillingham since 2015 and had an underwhelming 16-17 season, finishing 20th in the League One. QPR should be able to win this game but the match should be a hard-fought encounter between the two sides
