Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has explained why he allowed Josh Onomah to join Aston Villa on loan this season.
As the youngster is regarded as one of the best up and coming talents within the Spurs system, many were surprised by the club’s decision to send him on loan.
Pochettino has now explained the loan move saying, “Because every six months we need to review every single situation and Josh, after the U20 World Cup I think in his mind it was to play more and prove himself that he can play.
“There were a lot of rumours about his position on the pitch. He can play as an 8, a 6, a 7 or 10 or 11, I think that is not the problem. He needs to prove himself that he can play.”
Pochettino was initially hesitant to allow Onomah at the centre of the field last season and this loan move to Villa may allow the manager to gauge the players abilities as he will likely be playing for the Villains on a regular basis.
