Virgil van Dijk might reportedly switch his destination when leaving Southampton at the last minute. According to The Sun, Saints management does not want to sell the Dutch centre-back to Liverpool and instead, Chelsea has been considered as a preferable side to negotiate with.
Reportedly, the club from Stamford Bridge is about to offer £50 million to the club from St. Mary’s for van Dijk.
Southampton and Liverpool had a very good partnership regarding transfer moves, and four Saints players have ended up at Anfield. Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana.
It seems that Southampton decided to terminate this cooperation, because the Reds were negotiating with the 26-year-old behind their back.
Afterward, Southampton issued a threat to Liverpool, claiming that they will report the 5-time European champions to the league institutions because they broke negotiation rules, by which the club has to be informed about any negotiations with its player. Liverpool issued an apology following this threat.
