The start to the Championship 2017/18 is upon us and this Saturday, August 5, 2017 (9:30 AM Pacific) Aston Villa will host Hull City at Villa Park. This match is expected to be one of the most exciting games during the first weekend of football as both teams will look to begin the season with a win in their quest to reach the Premier League.

Aston Villa had a disappointing 2016/17 season in which they finished in 13th place and away from promotion playoff contention. The tean coached by Steve Bruce made serious signings this offseason in hopes that it will allow them to improve compared to last season.

Their most notable signings were Ahmed Elmohamady who was curiously part of Hull City’s roster last season, and the star veteran John Terry who left Chelsea after more than 600 appearances in all competitions.

Hull City will play their first match after their return to the Championship following their relegation last season from the Premier League. The team coached by Leonid Slutsky will attempt to be a promotion contender, yet they will have to work without eight players who left on the off-season. Nonetheless, the Tigers made four key signings in what they hope will be enough to be in the fight for promotion.
