According to The Sun, Black Cats Manager Simon Grayson has been eyeing Rangers winger Martyn Waghorn. Sunderland are trying to sign 27-year-old Waghorn, who had started his football career at the Stadium of Light.
Although Waghorn’s form at Rangers has been good with his 16 stellar goals last season, the inclusion of Alfredo Morelos and Eduardo Herrera to the Rangers squad for the summer season has made the situation too cramped for the striker.
The Wearside club is in dire need of a strong replacement for Jermain Defoe, which it seeks to accomplish with the inclusion of South Shield native Waghorn.
The £3million-rated Rangers striker is at the tail end of his Rangers contract and may welcome the switch when it happens.
With Sunderland looking to boost the team’s morale after the ‘Darron Gibson video’ episode, Waghorn’s inclusion may bring much needed relief for the club.
The club have already added striker Lewis Grabban, who is from Bournemouth on loan but Waghorn would be a useful addition.
