This Friday, August 4, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific) Monarcas Morelia will host Santos Laguna at the Estadio Morelos for a match in the third round of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. Both teams made it into the playoffs in the Clausura 2017 and will fight to get into the playoffs in this tournament.
Monarcas Morelia is off to a decent start in the Apertura with a scoreless draw against Monterrey and a 1-1 draw against Puebla. Morelia is yet to score a goal by one of its players as the only goal for La Monarquia this season was an own goal by Puebla’s Bryan Angulo. The offense has been an issue for Roberto Hernandez especially without a healthy Raul Ruidiaz on his side.
Players like Jefferson Cuero, Andy Polo and Gaston Lezcano have not been able to provide that clinical finishing ability that Ruidiaz provides. This should be a challenging task for Roberto Hernandez’s side, especially going up against the rigid Santos’ back line.
Santos Laguna has had a solid start to the new season with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Lobos BUAP and an impressive 1-1 draw against Tigres UANL. Jose Manuel de la Torre counts with one of the most well-balanced teams in the league, starting with a back line that can be strenuous to break down for any opposition.
The midfield also has creative and defensive players that link up the whole team, while the attack possesses some clinical finishers like Julio Furch and Djaniny Tavares. Santos has a much better team than Morelia and should give a good fight to get its first three points of the Apertura tournament. The game should be an exciting one to kick off the third week of Liga MX play in the Apertura 2017 and should have a few goals.
