Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has warned his former manager Frank de Boer that he will have to adapt if he wants to be successful with Crystal Palace in the Premier League during the upcoming season.
The Dutch legend de Boer was appointed as new Palace manager following the resignation of Sam Allardyce during the summer and has his vowed to get the Eagles to play an attractive brand of football.
De Boer has tasted success as a manager after having guided Ajax to four consecutive League titles from the 2010-11 season and Vertonghen played under him at the Dutch giants from 2010 to 2012.
Despite his reputation though, the Belgian international Vertonghen has now warned that things will be tougher for his former coach in England, saying, “Obviously the leagues are very different – the Premier League is much more competitive than the Dutch league.
“I’m not going to say the Dutch league is naive but they all play to win. In the Premier League, you have teams with a different philosophy – sometimes that will be difficult and different.”
