This Wednesday, August 2, 2017 (6:30 PM Pacific) Club America will host Atlas at the Estadio Azteca for a match in the Apertura 2017 edition of the Copa MX. Both teams will fight to get to the knockout stage of the tournament and should present an exciting encounter in Mexico City.
Club America has had a decent start to the Liga MX Apertura 2017, coming off an impressive 2-0 win against Pachuca away from home. Las Aguilas have a solid core of players with the massive addition of Guido Rodriguez and with a healthy Cecilio Dominguez. Miguel Herrera has been known to use key players in these cup competitions and may present an alternate squad with a good mix of some of the consistent starters. The home-field advantage is a substantial factor that may propel the Mexico City side to victory but it will still be a very tough game for “El Piojo”.
Atlas has been one of the best teams in the Liga MX, currently one of two teams that are undefeated so far. The team from Guadalajara did have action in the first matchday of the Copa MX, defeating Potros UAEM 2-1 at the Estadio Jalisco. An own goal and a goal by Uruguayan midfielder Christian Tabo helped Los Rojinegros get the win against the Ascenso MX side.
Jose Guadalupe Cruz presented an alternate squad with some standout players like Facundo Erpen, Luis Robles and Fidel Martinez. “El Profe” may present a similar squad with a stronger focus on the league but may also start a few other starters, facing a tough opponent in Club America. The match should be one of the best in this round of Copa MX play and should prove to be an intriguing encounter.
