According to the Daily Mail, Ross Barkley’s wage demands is preventing Tottenham from going after his signature, while Everton’s asking price, which is well above £35million, could also hinder the north London giants from completing a summer move for the 23-year-old.
At the moment, only Hugo Lloris and Harry Kane earn above £100,000 a week at Tottenham, and Barkley won’t be getting into that wage bracket if he agrees to a move.
The midfielder refused to commit his future to Everton despite being offered more than that figure in a new contract.
Apparently, Barkley’s desire for a new challenge will come at a cost, provided he agrees to a Spurs move.
The Toffees want to get rid of the youngster as soon as possible, and could still lower their asking price if suitors aren’t willing to meet it.
While that is an advantage for Tottenham, they may still lose out on his signature as the highest bidder potentially has a better chance.
As it stands, Barkley has the final say as regarding moving to Spurs or not. So, is he willing to make a lot of sacrifices to take his career to the next level? Or could there still be a change of mind as regards continuing at Goodison Park?
For Spurs, the signs don’t look good, though, and it seems their little spending powers will stand between them and landing their man. It already kept them from keeping one.
