Pochettino defends Tottenham’s harsh treatment of Walker

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has defended fans of his club after they jeered Kyle Walker every time he got the ball during his side’s 3-0 pre-season defeat against Manchester City.

Walker left Spurs this summer to link up with Pep Guardiola’s side for a world record £54 million deal and had to endure the wrath of the crowd each time he got the ball at the Nissan Stadium in Nashville.

Pochettino defended fans of his club for their actions, saying, “I totally understand. Fans showed they are disappointed with the situation but the Tottenham fans love him really.

“He spent nine years at the club. It is not personal. It is not a big issue. It is only to show him they were disappointed he left.”

It was reported that the England international Walker became unhappy at the North London club last season after losing his place in the side to Kieran Trippier and decided to move to City as a result. In addition, he also earns significantly more at his new club.
