Championship duo reportedly battling it out for Aston Villa man

According to reports, Sunderland are competing with Sheffield Wednesday in the battle to sign Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton.

Wednesday were believed to be leading the race to sign the 32-year-old Hutton though it has now emerged that Sunderland, with whom the player underwent a loan spell with in 2010, have also entered the race to sign him.

Hutton recently extended his contract with Villa until next summer; however he will have to compete against the likes of James Bree, Ritchie De Laet and Ahmed Elmohamady during the upcoming campaign, which may make a move away appealing.

Villa may also consider the possibility of cashing in on the player should they receive a good offer.

Sunderland are not short of right back positions ahead of the new seasons as they have Tyias Browning, Billy Jones and Donald Love who can all play in the position. It remains to be seen if they will make a move on Hutton.
