This Saturday, July 22, 2017 (5:00 PM Pacific) Tigres UANL will host Puebla at the Estadio Universitario for a match-up in week 1 of the Liga MX Apertura 2017. This is by far the biggest mismatch in the Liga MX this week but it should be an interesting encounter.
Tigres UANL still has one of the best squads on the continent and is the heavy favorite in this match and one of the favorites to take the title. Los Felinos were not great during the regular season of the Liga MX Clausura 2017 but really started to pick it up in the playoffs. The team from Monterrey finished seventh in the Clausura 2017 tournament but had a stellar playoff run, making it all the way to the final and finishing as runners-up.
Tigres UANL did not need to strengthen its squad leading up to this tournament but did make the surprising acquisition of Enner Valencia from West Ham United. Tigres is the heavy favorite to take the three points and should get a comfortable win in front of the loyal home support.
Puebla was the worst team in the Liga MX Clausura 2017, finishing dead last and is set to struggle again in this campaign. Los Camoteros revamped the squad now under the leadership of Rafael Garcia as the head coach. Some of the more notable names that came in for this season include three former Club America players in Moises Munoz, Jose Daniel Guerrero and Erik Pimentel. One signing that should help massively in the attack is Felix Micolta, coming in from Chiapas.
The Colombian showed signs of greatness in the Clausura 2017 and it will be interesting to see how he does in this game and in this tournament. One of the other intriguing signings for Puebla was the Argentine-born, Palestinian player, Carlos Salom, coming in from Union Espanola in Chile. While there is a clear winner for this match the game should still be a contested one at the Estadio Universitario.
