This Tuesday, July 18, 2017 (5:55 PM Pacific) Murcielagos will host Club America at the Estadio Centenario in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico for a friendly match. The match should be great preparation for both teams and will be for a great cause, as all the proceeds will go to Ezequiel Orozco, who is battling cancer.
Murcielagos had a couple of rough tournaments in the Ascenso MX, finishing 13th in the Apertura 2016 and dead last, 18th in the Clausura 2017. The team from Sinaloa is not filled with notable players but there are a couple of former Liga MX players on the squad. Among the most noteworthy are the defender, Diego Jimenez, who played in the Liga MX with Atlante, Monarcas Morelia and Tecos and midfielder, Edgar Mejia, who played with Leon, Puebla and most notably Chivas of Guadalajara.
Another pair of intriguing players on Murcielagos hail from Trinidad & Tobago in Jomal Williams and striker, Shahdon Winchester, who has played for his nation this year. The match should not be one that the Ascenso MX side should win but it should still be an entertaining duel in Sinaloa this Tuesday.
Club America is coming off a tough 2-0 loss against Queretaro in the Supercopa MX in Carson, California. Miguel Herrera did present a strong lineup for that game with the key absence of Edson Alvarez in the heart of the defense. The back line comprised of Carlos Vargas, Miguel Samudio, Bruno Valdez and Paul Aguilar did look very fragile and inconsistent.
One of the lone standouts on the StubHub Center pitch was the fresh signing, Guido Rodriguez, who did a spectacular job in that defensive midfielder role and even had a solid opportunity to score off an outside of the box shot. It will be interesting to see how the Mexico City side can fare in a game with a lot less pressure and against a much weaker opposition.
