This Tuesday, July 18, 2017 (4:20 AM Pacific) AC Milan will play Borussia Dortmund at the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center Central Stadium in Guangzhou, China. The match is part of a series of friendly matches in China, the United States and Singapore that make up the 2017 International Champions Cup.
AC Milan is currently in a rebuilding phase with the Chinese ownership and manager, Vincenzo Montella splashing the cash on some key signings this offseason. This includes young talent in players like Andrea Conti, Hakan Calhanoglu and Andre Silva. But also includes some experienced players like Lucas Biglia, Mateo Musacchio, Ricardo Rodriguez and most notably former Juventus centre-back, Leonardo Bonucci.
One of the biggest news from Milan’s offseason was the contract extension of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who was heavily linked with a move away from the San Siro. This new young core of players in Milan should help the Serie A side return to glory after a few disappointing seasons, most recently finishing sixth in the 2016-2017 Serie A campaign. This game will serve as a solid test to see how the fresh signings can work together against a tough opposition.
Borussia Dortmund has had a much less busy offseason but that could change with star striker, Pierre- Emerick Aubameyang linked to several clubs including AC Milan. If the African striker does depart the German club, Peter Bosz will need an immediate replacement for him. The Bundesliga side has made some signings this offseason strengthening the defense and the midfield.
Bringing over Omer Toprak from Bayer Leverkusen and young German midfielders, Mahmoud Dahoud and Maximilian Philipp. The game should be a contested clash between two of Europe’s top teams and should be filled with action throughout the 90 minutes.
