This Friday, July 14, 2017 (4:30 PM Pacific) Costa Rica will play French Guiana at the Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas for a group stage match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Both teams are on opposite sides of the table but should still provide a hard-fought duel.

Costa Rica is expected to top Group A of the competition and is currently second with four points just behind on goal differential to Canada. Los Ticos started out the tournament with a solid 1-0 win against Honduras then had a surprising 1-1 draw against Canada, which was a game that Costa Rica was expected to win. Both goal scorers in this Gold Cup for the Central American country have been by MLS players in Marcos Urena of the San Jose Earthquakes and Francisco Calvo of Minnesota United. Costa Rica should be able to easily win this game and emerge as the leaders of Group A after the encounter.

French Guiana has been at the center of controversy lately as it was forced to forfeit its game against Honduras because Florent Malouda played. Malouda, 37 had already played with the French national team in his extensive career and was not eligible to play with French Guiana in this competition. The South American side had achieved a solid 0-0 draw against Honduras but will now get nothing from that match. French Guiana is practically eliminated from the competition but will still be looking to get the win from this game.
