This Thursday, July 13, 2017 (7:30 PM Pacific) Mexico will play Jamaica at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, Colorado for a group stage match in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Both teams started out the competition with a win in San Diego, California and will be looking to fight for the three points to top Group C.

MEXICO: Moises Muñoz, Edson Álvarez, Hugo Ayala, Hedgardo Marín, Jesus Gallardo, Jesus Dueñas, Jesus Molina, Orbelin Pineda, Rodolfo Pizarro Pizarro, Erick Cubo, and Elías Hernandez.

JAMAICA: Blake, Lowe, Powell, Binns, Lawrence, Taylor, Mattocks, Watson, Lambert, Fisher, and Burke.
Mexico started out the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a dominant 3-1 victory against El Salvador at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, California. Two of the three goal scorers for Mexico in that game were Chivas’ players in Edgardo Marin and Orbelin Pineda. The other goal came from Leon’s, Elias Hernandez, who had a very solid game playing the entire 90 minutes. El Tri dominated the game with 66-percent possession and 17 shots in the encounter.
The defense did look sloppy at times allowing four shots on goal from El Salvador but the goalkeeper, Jose de Jesus Corona also did an excellent job in between the sticks. One of the more unimpressive players was the striker, Angel Sepulveda, who did not show up at all in the encounter. In contrast to Sepulveda, one of the more impressive players was Chivas’ Rodolfo Pizarro, who was playing as a striker towards the end of the game and was creating countless opportunities in the attack.
Juan Carlos Osorio is likely to change up the squad and it will be interesting to see if Erick Torres or Martin Barragan get a chance to fill the lone striker role that Sepulveda did not excel in. Jamaica also had a dominant performance in its first game, defeating Curacao 2-0 on July 9. The first half of that game was very quiet but Jamaica got its two goals in the second half by USL player, Romario Williams and MLS player Darren Mattocks. The Islanders displayed dangerous counter-attacks throughout the game with extremely rapid players down the wings.
This can turn out to be tricky for Mexico to contain if Jamaica can execute these plays flawlessly. Jamaica will be a tough test for this Mexico side but it is still a game that the “CONCACAF Giants” should be able to win. The match should be a hard-fought clash and have plenty of goals in it.
