Pumas UNAM had a pitiful Clausura 2017 tournament, finishing in penultimate place with just 18 points. The team from Mexico City has already made some key changes to try and avoid a similar, disappointing campaign in the Apertura 2017. The Felines should have a full squad for this clash with the exception of Jesus Gallardo, who is playing with the Mexican national team in the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The addition of Formica is particularly noteworthy as the Pumas’ midfield struggled to be constructive and build-up play during the Clausura 2017. Puebla was the only team in the Liga MX Clausura 2017 that finished below Pumas UNAM, finishing dead last with only 16 points. Puebla has been playing friendlies in the United States and is coming off a tough 4-0 loss against Club America in Philadelphia. Not much is expected from Los Camoteros in this upcoming tournament, despite some key additions like Moises Munoz and Jose Daniel Guerrero. This is not a game that Puebla should be able to win during the regular season and this encounter should serve as a challenging task for Puebla leading up to the Apertura 2017.
