According to reports, Tottenham have begun talks with Real Madrid about signing midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The 23-year-old has long been touted as a top target of Mauricio Pochettino.
Kovacic played 27 times for Madrid last season and found himself in and out of the side. The appeal of regular first team football with Spurs may attract him Wembley this summer.
However, Real boss Zinedine Zidane is said to not want to sell and may include a buy back clause should a transfer take place. There are currently doubts over the future of Eric Dier and Kovacic be a good replacement for the Englishman should he depart.
Spurs will need to make reinforcements this summer as they aim to challenge for major silverware next season.
Thus far, they have had a very quiet summer in terms of signings. They recently missed out on top target Matthias Ginter, who has opted to remain in the Bundesliga and joined Borussia Monchengladbach.
