Star wants to win Championship with Leeds United this season

After sealing a permanent move to Leeds, Pontus Jansson has indicated that he wishes to win the Championship title with the club.

The Whites narrowly missed out on a place in the promotion playoffs last season after finishing seventh and there is no doubt that they will try to push for promotion again next season.

Following impressive displays for the Yorkshire club last season while on loan from Italian club Torino, the Sweden international Jansson joined the club on a permanent basis for £3.5 million this summer.

Jansson now hopes to achieve big things with Leeds and said, “I’m here to win the Championship. I hope the others have the same goal as me.

“Last season was a good season. Leeds have been in trouble for the last 10 years and haven’t been in a stable position. We played good football and won the fans back. From the winter forwards, Elland Road was almost full for every game and every away game was fantastic.

“It was only the last few games where we missed out but hopefully this time we’ll be ready from the first game, not six or seven games into the season.

“For three weeks afterwards I was really down. It was hard because I said from the first day that I wanted to go to the Premier League. When we lost it in the last few games, of course it was tough. Now we have to look forward.”

New coach Thomas Christiansen has stated that he wishes to finish in the top six of the Championship next season and doing that may require making good signings and well as smart tactical decisions throughout the course of the campaign.
