This Sunday, July 9, 2017 (3:00 PM Pacific) Santos will host Sao Paulo at the Estadio Vila Belmiro for a matchup in week 12 of the Campeonato Brasileiro. Both teams have been historically successful in Brazil but are struggling to kick off this season.
Santos is currently in fifth with 17 points but is 15 points behind the leaders Corinthians, who are undefeated with 32 points. The eight-time champions are coming off an important 3-2 win over Atletico PR, Kayke was a vital player in the match scoring two goals in the game. The 29-year-old will be an important player to watch in this encounter and could lead his team to glory. Other interesting players could be the speedy Colombian, Jonathan Copete, who can be tricky to mark down the wings and the former Wolfsburg man, Bruno Henrique, who also scored against Atletico PR. Santos should have the advantage playing at home and having the stronger side but will still face a historically tough rival, which should make for an intense match.
Sao Paulo has had a dreadful start to this season, currently in eighteenth with only 11 points, with three wins, two draws and already six losses. Tricolor has not won in its last six games, recently coming off a 2-0 loss against Flamengo away from home. Sao Paulo has only scored one goal in its last three games, the goal game in the 1-1 draw against Fluminense and was scored by the veteran midfielder, Jucilei. Manager, Dorival Junior does have potent strikers on his squad like the Peruvian, Christian Cueva and the Argentine, Lucas Pratto but neither has been able to produce this season. Santos does look like the clear favorite to take the match but it should prove to be a hard-fought clash in Santos.
