Tottenham reportedly miss out on the signing of midfield target

As The Mirror reports, Tottenham target Carles Alena signed a new three-year deal with the Catalan club, and the contract now contains a £66million buyout clause.

It seems that Alena opted to extend the contract and stay with his boyhood club after all, despite the strong interest by Mauricio Pochettino. His new deal will probably put an end to the talks about Alena moving to North London anytime soon.

The 19-year-old, who is the captain of the Spain Under-19s and a La Masia prospect, is a highly rated midfield player, and several clubs were interested in snatching him away from Barcelona.

Alena has made four appearances for the first team, but he has mostly played for Barcelona B. With his 23 appearances last term, the young player guided the team towards winning the league.

Pochettino will now have to look elsewhere for potential reinforcements, and the Spurs fans will probably be disappointed for missing out on a rising star.
