Middlesbrough reportedly close to agreeing deal with Manchester United; Aston Villa miss out

According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is preparing to sell goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to Middlesbrough, even though Aston Villa showed a great interest in the player.

Johnstone spent the last season on loan at Villa, and he impressed with his performances and goalkeeping capabilities. However, it seems that Steve Bruce failed to lure him in, and Garry Monk could benefit from the circumstances.

Reportedly, Monk’s club, Middlesbrough, will pay £2.4 million for the keeper who is looking for a place to play some first-team football. Since Monk will be without Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan over the summer, it is clear that he needs an urgent solution in front of his goal line.

Johnstone does not fit in with Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford, and that is why the 24-year-old keeper is looking to find a new club. Unfortunately for Villa fans, it seems as though Middlesbrough is his next destination.
