As The Metro reports, former Tottenham player Paulinho is set to join Barcelona on a four-year deal in a transfer worth £22 million.
In 2015, Paulinho was among the first high-profile names to move to China, and the Spurs were happy to get rid of the Brazilian international at the time. As it turns out, Guangzhou Evergrande could now cash in on the midfielder, who could be making a surprise comeback to the European football.
However, his countrymen and current coach at Guangzhou, Luis Felipe Scolari, thinks that the deal with Barcelona is “highly unlikely” since Paulinho has a £35-million release clause in his contract. With the new transfer rules in place, Chinese clubs are not willing to sell their top players easily.
Furthermore, the 28-year-old signed a new contract in January 2017. Nonetheless, Ernesto Valverde, the new Barca coach, wants improvements to his midfield department, and he sees the former Tottenham player as one of the options.
