This Summer, Gonzalo Rodriguez has been linked to several clubs across Argentina, Italy and Europe. According to his agent, Rodriguez has finally decided to move back to Argentina with one of the top teams in the league, San Lorenzo.

Rodriguez, 33, began his career with San Lorenzo back in 2002 and had a very successful stint with the club playing well enough to earn a move to La Liga with Villareal in 2004. The experienced centre-back had been in the Serie A with Fiorentina since 2012 and had earned the captain armband in 2015.

The former Fiorentina skipper had been linked to Racing Club de Avellaneda, Real Betis, Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio and Olympiakos. The veteran still had enough quality to stay in Europe but instead will embark on a distinct career route and return to the team where he started his career, San Lorenzo. The Buenos Aires club had had a successful campaign in the Argentine league currently in sixth place with 52 points and is set to participate in the next edition of the Copa Libertadores.

Rodriguez will be one of the top signings for San Lorenzo this offseason and should help solidify the defense massively. The offense is already set for La Azulgrana with players like Fernando Belluschi, Nicolas Blandi and Ruben Botta. The potential defensive partnership of Marcos Angeleri and Gonzalo Rodriguez could be one of the best in Argentina and it could translate into success next season.
