According to reports, Aston Villa must pay £300,000 more if they wish to lure Stoke City midfielder Glenn Whelan.
After joining Stoke from Sheffield Wednesday in 2008, Whelan was a mainstay for the Potters for almost a decade; however his current status at the clubs indicates that the club are now willing to part ways with him.
Following the arrival of Darren Fletcher at the club, Whelan appears to be surplus to requirements. Villa are hoping to lure Whelan in order to bolster their midfield so that they can challenge for Premier League promotion next season.
The Villians reportedly have already made a £500,000 bid for Whelan which was rejected by Stoke as the club are demanding £300,000 more.
The 33-year-old Whelan has a lot of experience in the Premier League, which could benefit Villa next season. He can also serve as a mentor to many youngster Villa players.
