Former Norway national team manager Egil Olsen has said that his dog and wife ended his dream of managing Scottish giants Celtic.
During his managerial career, the 75-year-old Olsen had two stints with Norway and also managed Wimbledon in England. Following the departure of Wim Jansen as Celtic manager in 1998, Olsen had been offered the opportunity to manage the club, which he did not take up.
Olsen has since revealed that the reason why he turned down the Bhoys was because of his dog Copier by saying, “I was very close to signing a five-year contract with Celtic in 1998. I had representatives from the club sitting on my patio at home.
“But it was not possible to have my dog with me in Scotland without it being quarantined, so my wife said no and that was it.”
During his managerial career, which started in 1972 with Norwegian club Frigg, Olsen managed many clubs. The last time he managed was when he ended a four year stint with the Norway national team in 2013.
