Following the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo as manager, Wolverhampton Wanderers have denied that agent Jorge Mendes is in charge of recruitment at the club.
Mendes served as Santo’s agent and has been responsible for placing a number of players within the Wolves squad since Chinese company Fosun took control of the club last summer.
Many fans of the club began to believe that Mendes may have a high influence over the teams affairs and decision making, however the teams managing director Laurie Dalrymple has said that the influence of the Portuguese agent does not go beyond an advisory role.
“Jorge Mendes isn’t in charge of recruitment of this football club. He can’t be, it is not within the rules,” said Dalrymple.
“Is he a known associate of owners? Yes he is. He has been for some time, there is no secret to that. Are we any different to how we operate our recruitment plan that other clubs? No.”
