Leeds United handed a boost in their pursuit of £4million-rated midfielder

Leeds United have been handed a boost in the race to sign their former club captain Jonny Howson following the 29-year-old’s decision to reject a new contract offer from the Canaries.

Howson is a product of the Leeds youth development system and after making more than 200 appearances for the club, he departed in 2012 for £2 million as Norwich offered him the prospect of Premier League football at the time.

With Howson having just one year left on his current deal, Norwich will have to listen to offers and are said to be demanding a figure in the region of £4 million for a sale.

Premier League club Burnley have also been linked with a move for the midfielder and may be more appealing to the player given that a move there will allow him to ply his trade in top flight football.

However if he is not given assurances over first team football, a move back to his boyhood club may get preference.
