According to reports, Newcastle could be set to sell Karl Darlow this summer after manager Rafa Benitez began to raise doubts about whether the goalkeeper has what it takes to play on a regular basis in the Premier League.
Though Darlow had been the Magpies first choice keeper for majority of last season as they clinched the Championship title, the ex-Forest man lost his place in the team during the final games of the season to Rob Eliott, with Benitez reportedly expressing doubts over the player’s ability.
In addition, experienced Dutch shot-stopper Tim Krul is expected to return to St James Park this summer to challenge for the first choice position.
The Magpies have also been linked with Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who had previously worked with Benitez at Liverpool over recent days.
Should Reina arrive at St James Park, Benitez will likely have to offload one of his goalkeepers and according to recent reports, Darlow could be the individual.
The 26-year-old Darlow will likely attract the attention of many Championship clubs and a sale should attract a decent price.
