According to reports, West Ham have refused a transfer to sign Spanish World Cup winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas on a free transfer.

The 36-year-old Casillas is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers of this generation and has 16 years of professional experience to his name.

He is best known for his lengthy spell with boyhood club Real Madrid for whom he made 732 appearances in all competitions and kept 234 clean sheets.

During his illustrious career, the Spanish international has won the World Cup, three Champions Leagues and two European Championship titles.

Although West Ham need a new goalkeeper, signing Casillas would have been a bad move for the club. Though he is a legendary goalkeeper, his form has dropped over recent years which led to him being criticized towards the end of his time with Madrid as well as during his spell with Porto.

The veteran’s salary demands are also not feasible for a club such as West Ham.
