West Ham and Everton reportedly battle to sign Leeds United man

Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato have claimed that numerous clubs are interested in signing Leeds United striker Chris Wood during the summer including West Ham and Everton.

The New Zealand international has been on sensational form this season, notching 25 goals in 42 Championship matches and his form is a key reason as to why Leeds are in the hunt for a place in the promotion playoffs.

Should Leeds, however fail to win promotion; keeping Wood will be a difficult task. The 25-year-old has previously indicated that he has a desire to score goals in the Premier League and the interest of top flight clubs will surely appeal to him.

West Ham would probably be the best fit for Wood. Andy Carroll has not been consistent this season and the club will need a fresh player to bolster their attack next season.

While Wood will not be a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who is expected to leave Everton during the summer, the New Zealand international could also provide Ronald Koeman would an additional forward option though he would probably gain less game time than if he were to move to West Ham.
