Steven Gerrard blasts the West Ham United players

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has backed West Ham manager Slaven Bilic and said that the club’s struggles this season are the fault of the players.

After an impressive display last season during which they finished seventh, the Hammers have shown signs of struggle this season and are flirting with relegation.

Many have criticized Bilic for poor transfer recruitment and there are also rumors of infighting among squad members.

Bilic’s decision to omit Diafra Sakho from his playing squad against Sunderland last weekend is also rumored to have caused a rift between himself and the Senegal international.  The board of the East London club recently revealed though that they are supportive of the Croatian manager.

Gerrard feels that the club’s struggles are more the fault of the players, who need to question themselves, saying, “They get themselves in front and they’re not keeping leads for long enough. Of course it is (down to the players).

“I’m sure Slaven is sending them out there with a game plan telling them ‘Look if we take the lead let’s keep it tight at the back’ but they’re conceding too many goals.”
